Angels“ in the House of Commons?

Anti-Suffrage Agitation and the Argument from „Hysteria“

Prof. Logie Barrow will look at the argument of “militant hysteria” brought forward during a spectacular climax in the suffragette agitation in 1912 by the renowned medical professor Sir Almroth Wright. Wright called in physiology to unmask women as politically dangerous because inherently unreasonable, and sparked a lively debate about the essential suitability of women – and, incidentally, men – for leading offices in politics.
